AbacusNext has signed a lease with Irvine Co. to fully occupy its new 65,000-square-foot Eastgate Summit in the La Jolla UTC submarket of San Diego.
The tenant, the largest technology-as-a-service provider in the legal and accounting industries, is a long-time Irvine Co. customer that will move from La Jolla Gateway to the new building. Situated on one of the most visible hilltops in coastal San Diego, the three-story building offers unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean, a view usually reserved for high-rise office buildings.
Hughes Marino represented the tenant in the lease transaction. Alessandra Lezama, CEO of AbacusNext, calls the new space “one of the most visible and prestigious locations in San Diego” and added, “Our new headquarters will enable us to bring over 400 new employees together, enhance our culture and propel our efforts to innovate, grow, recruit, and retain the most extraordinary technology talent in San Diego.”
In November 2017, AbacusNext acquired HotDocs, the global leader in document automation, making it the most complete technology provider to the professional services industry. In May 2017, it acquired OfficeTools, maker of the industry-leading practice-management software WorkSpace. And in February, the company acquired Cloudnine RealTime and Results Software, positioning it as the leader in technology solutions for accounting and other industries after three decades as the leading technology provider for legal professionals.
Since Eastgate Summit overlooks I-805, hundreds of thousands of motorists pass by it daily, providing AbacusNext a branding opportunity. Its 22,000-square-foot, column-free floor plates also feature oversized windows for natural light and a lobby with Italian travertine and limestone floors. The building is LEED certified and located near resort-style apartments and diverse dining and shopping at Westfield UTC. The project also features open-air spaces with high-speed Wi-Fi, barbecues, and spaces for outdoor meetings and social gatherings.
Irvine Co. has invested more than $150 million in new office buildings in La Jolla UTC, including its 15-floor One La Jolla Center and its newest low-rise offices, Eastgate Terrace and Eastgate Summit. The company has also invested more than $40 million to enhance shared common areas with new services and programmed events. Employees at Eastgate Summit also have access to Kinetic, the company’s fitness and wellness movement that includes a state-of-the-art fitness center, modern conference center, putting green, running path and bocce, basketball, and sand volleyball courts.
